Try this balance exercise with me now!
It's more interesting than standing on one leg, and is a great balance challenge.
The Toe Balance Walk will improve your balance, ankle stability and postural control.
- Make sure to perform this walk next to something you can hold onto. I am doing it next to a wall but a long bannister, table or kitchen worktop is even better, as you can really hold on.
- Distribute your weight evenly across both feet
- Pull up as tall as you can and come up straight (resist the temptation to lean forwards)
- Go slowly and try your best to control the movement, on the way up and down
If you feel very unsteady doing this, place your feet a little wider apart as you step.
If you want to make it more challenging, place your feet one in front of the other (as if walking on a tightrope).
